She is also a registered paramedic who worked for the London Ambulance Service for 5 years. She is a qualified Resuscitation Council (UK) instructor in Advanced Life Support (ALS), European Paediatric Life Support (EPLS), Immediate Life Support (ILS), and Generic Instructor training (GIC) as well as an Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG) instructor in Major Incident Medical Management & Support (MIMMS). Why have Resuscitation Training?
Sudden cardiac arrest, particularly from coronary heart disease, remains one of the commonest causes of death in the United Kingdom and many such deaths occur outside hospital. All healthcare professionals who work in the community may be required to resuscitate a victim of a cardiopulmonary arrest.
Cardiac arrest is a common and treatable cause of premature death. The earlier that effective treatment is provided, such as basic life support (BLS) and defibrillation, the more likely the patient is to survive. Every minute that a victim is without a defibrillator, their chance of survival drops by 7-10%.
All healthcare professionals in the community who have contact with patients should be trained to resuscitate patients who suffer cardiopulmonary arrests. The minimum standard should be proficiency in basic life support.
Training and practice are necessary to acquire skills in resuscitation techniques. Resuscitation skills decline rapidly and regular updates and retraining using manikins are necessary to maintain adequate skill levels. It is therefore recommended that updates take place at least once a year. CPR is an important component of first aid training.

Available Courses
Adult Basic Life Support
The course is for anyone who may be required to perform basic life support in an emergency situation prior to the arrival of the emergency services. Candidates will learn the chain of survival, the principles of initial assessment of the casualty, dealing with the choking patient, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the use of barrier devices for the ventilation of the casualty.
Paediatric Basic Life Support
The course is designed for anyone who may be required to perform basic life support on children or infants prior to the arrival of the emergency services. A child is classified as between 1 year and puberty in terms of resuscitation, and an infant is below the age of 1 year. Candidates learn the chain of survival, initial assessment, dealing with the choking child, CPR skills, and the use of barrier devices for ventilating the child and infant.
Anaphyalxis Training
Anaphylaxis is a life threatening severe allergic reaction. The course educates the candidates in the signs and symptoms, recognition and treatment guidelines for anaphylaxis.
Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
Early defibrillation is critical in survival from cardiac arrest. An AED is a device that analyses a casualty's heart rhythm and directs the rescuer to shock the casualty (defibrillate) if specific abnormalities are detected. The course offers theoretical and practical training in the use of a defibrillator in conjunction with basic life support skills.
Advanced Life Support Update
The Advanced Life Support Guidelines were updated in November 2005 and there have been some significant changes. This is an update of the changes that includes a Powerpoint presentation and a basic life support update.
All training is delivered in accordance with the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines.
